AlfaWall Oceanbird AB is a 50/50 joint venture, owned by Alfa Laval and Wallenius but operated as an independent company. We are developing wing sail technology for the global shipping market and are now looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to our team based in Tumba, Stockholm.

What will you do?
We are looking for an experienced engineer that can combine mechanical design and structural engineering skills in solving the complex challenges of getting wing sails onboard large ocean-going ships. The focus will be on taking responsibility for development of our laminated composite components; however, the detailed job description and responsibilities can be adapted depending on the experience of the applicant. The key tasks will however be:
Design development and analysis of our composite structures for prototypes and products and serve as the subject matter expert in composite materials and manufacturing processes.
Collaborate in cross-functional teams, including aerodynamics, mechanical design, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of composite components into our wing sail systems.
Utilize extensive experience in composite design and analysis (e.g. ANSYS ACP) to optimize structures for performance, weight, and efficiency.
Prepare design documentation in-line with relevant design standards to be certified by classification societies (e.g. DNV).
Follow the latest developments in composite materials, manufacturing techniques, and design software to drive continuous improvement and innovation for our company.



Who are you?
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Creative and problem-solving mindset is paramount!
Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
At least 5 years working experience from engineering of reinforced laminated composites and/or sandwich structures. Experience in the marine industry is meriting.
Field experience, you have already developed and been a part of taking prototypes or products from the drawing board to commissioning.
Familiar with relevant design standards (e.g. DNV-ST-0376 for rotor blades for wind turbine).

Dina arbetsuppgifter
Som utvecklingsingenjör hos vår kund kommer du att arbeta med utveckling inom elektronik och mekanik. Du kommer exempelvis att ta fram styrenheter och rätt givare samt vara med i hela processen i utvecklingen av företagets produkter. Du kommer att arbeta både självständigt och i team. Vidare kommer du att arbeta med:
- Konceptframtagning och mekanikutvecklingsarbete
- Ta fram ritningsunderlag och konstruera i SolidWorks
- Utföra tester av prototyper
- Integrera teknik i maskin
- Arbeta inhouse och ute hos kund beroende på projektläge
Du kommer att arbeta i företagets utvecklingsgrupp med fokus på konstruktion. Under din introduktion får du följa med erfarna kollegor, tillgång till företagets handbok samt genomgå säkerhetsutbildningar.

Din profil
Skallkrav:
Svenska & Engelska i tal och skrift
Körkort B
Kunskap i SolidWorks (alt. annat CAD-Program)
Kännedom av PDM (Product Data Management)
Eftergymnasialutbildning inom relevant tekniskt fält. Exempelvis produktionsutveckling eller mekanik.

Meriterande:
Erfarenhet eller kunskap av embedded utveckling, i kombination med mekanik
Förståelse för fysik
Tyska

About the job
You will manage, lead and motivate the engineering team of highly skilled design engineers responsible for product development and product care.
Key responsibilities:
Manage, lead, and inspire the team in product development and product care projects.
Responsible for that new designs are in conformance with applicable standards and regulations (IMO, USCG, Class, ISO and internal).
Technical support and verification of new designs.
Support to supply and purchasing activities.
Develop and implement new technical innovations.
Responsible for resource planning, recruitments, and operations of the team.
Part of R&D Management team.



This position is based in Tumba, Stockholm and you can expect up to 15 days of travel annually.
What you know
University degree in Engineering or a related field provides a solid foundation for understanding technical aspects of the role.
5+ years of experience in leading teams of highly skilled specialists.
Experience of product development processes.
Fluent in Swedish and English is a requirement.
Experience from maritime industry is a merit.
Experience of explosion proof design is a merit.
